Royalty On The Road

In celebration of HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year, Coventry Transport Museum is mounting Royalty On The Road; a special exhibition bringing together a variety of vehicles that have been used by British Royalty, past and present. From magnificent Daimler limousines used by monarchs to the Austin Metro given to Diana Spencer by Prince Charles, you will be able to get up close and personal with some extremely special vehicles.

You can enter our free Royalty on the Road competition to win 2 day passes to Buckingham Palace for August 27th 2012, simply fill in the entry form when you visit the exhibition.

Admission to Coventry Transport Museum and to this special exhibition is free of charge.

Come and enjoy the Royalty On The Road exhibition of Royal vehicles, then make a 'Royal Lollipop Stick puppet' to take home.

Admission to the exhibition is free of charge, the puppet craft activity is £1.

Exhibition open 10am to 5pm, craft activity available 11am to 3pm.

Royal Family Day

In celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, and to complement our temporary exhibition of royal vehicles, we are holding a special Royal Family Day, where families will be able to take part in a range of Royal-themed activities.

These include:

* Union Jack crafts
* Organic gardening inspired by Prince Charles
* Have your photograph taken on a throne
* Learn how to lay the table for a Royal banquet with Professor Roland Rotherham
* Share your Coronation memories on the Coventry Memories website
* Find out about the emblems used on the Coronation dress and decorate an emblem to stick on our 2012 dress

Admission Free, some activities have a small charge to cover materials.

The Tom Sabin Commemorative Cycle Ride 2012

9 June 2012 to 10 June 2012

Coventry to Much Wenlock (186 mile round trip)

Tom Sabin was a farmer from Allesley in Coventry who was also a highly successful racing cyclist, riding Penny Farthing bicycles. During the 1870s he won races all around Britain, but perhaps his greatest achievements were winning Gold Medals at the Much Wenlock Olympics in 1876, 1877 and 1878.

As part of Coventry Cycling Fesival 2012, and in honour of this forgotten hero, Coventry Transport Museum are proud to organise the Tom Sabin Commemorative Cycle Ride from Coventry Transport Museum to Much Wenlock - the home of the modern Olympics.

This is a ride not a race, and is only suitable for experienced cyclists, who have the ability to ride 100 miles.

You'll be taken on a pedal-powered guided tour of a number of locations around the City and discover the stories of JK Starley, Siegfried Bettmann, William Hillman and many more - and expect the unexpected!

Part of Coventry Cycling Festival.

Cycle designer Mike Burrows is perhaps best known for the design of the track carbon-fibre Lotus 108 time trial bicycle manufactured by Lotus for Chris Boardman, when he won the 1992 Olympic 4000m pursuit in Barcelona.

Mike is generally thought to be one of the most creative bicycle designers of modern times, and we are pleased that he will be joining us to give a talk about his work, which as well as the Lotus Chris Boardman bike, also includes recumbent bicycle and tricycles as well as folding bikes.

The evening will start at 7.30pm and tea & coffee will be available.

Rotary Club Schools Design & Technology Exhibition

Once again the Coventry Rotary Clubs will be exhibiting some of the most innovative and exciting work produced by young people from GCSE and A Level Design & Technology courses across the city, at this special event from 20 to 27 June, and all are welcome to come along and view the exhibits.

The exhibition is on the Mezzannine floor of the Museum, and is open daily from 10am to 5pm (1pm to 5pm on Wed 20 June).

This Summer, Coventry Transport Museum is honoured to present an extraordinary new exhibition that celebrates the history and heroes of all kinds of competitive cycling.

You'll get up close with bicycles and memorabilia from Olympic champions Tommy Godwin, Chris Boardman and Tom Sabin, come face to face with bikes that were ridden to glory on roads, velodromes, mountains and cyclocross tracks, and hear the stories of incredible people who changed the face of cycling forever.

We're lining up a magnificent selection of some of the most important bikes ever to have been ridden in a competitive arena, as well as a huge amount of cycling memorabilia, to create an immersive and interactive experience that will delight and inspire visitors of all ages.

PLUS - make your own piece of cycling history by getting hands-on with a range of family activities, as well as your chance to win a bike, throughout the run of the exhibition.

Coventry Cycling Festival 2012

This June, the Coventry Cycling Festival returns!

On the day of the Festival, Millennium Place in front of Coventry Transport Museum will come alive with a whole host of FREE activities for all ages – and whether you prefer to join in or simply to watch, you’ll find lots to enjoy throughout the whole weekend. And it doesn’t matter whether or not you own a bike, as cycles of all shapes and sizes will be provided for you to try.

The full programme of activities will be announced soon, but in the meantime you can get a flavour of what to expect, from this video of last year's festival:

We are looking for up to 100 cyclists to join us in celebrating the career of Tom Sabin, the Coventry-born cyclist who won the first Olympic cycle races in 1876.

This ride from Coventry Transport Museum to the Lunt Roman Fort is a fantastic route for the whole family to take part in together. It’s free to enter and there will be plenty of experienced cyclists on hand to guide you along the way – and you will even get free entry to the Lunt Fort when you arrive!

More than just a craft fair, this fantastic event will showcase and give you the opportunity to buy the work of some of the region's most creative people. With stalls including one-off jewellery pieces and toys, paintings and photographs, artisan food products and cards, you'll be amazed to discover the range of items being created by local people from across our region.
