Café

Esquires Café is situated at the front of the Museum near the main entrance. The cafe provides a range of child friendly food and drink, as well as delicious fair trade coffees and teas. Highchairs are available upon request and the friendly café staff will happily warm baby bottles. The café also has free, fun activity sheets for children, a children’s corner with a selection of children’s books and games, and is a safe, comfortable environment to relax with your family.

Learning

Visiting the Museum with your family is a great opportunity to have fun and learn together. We provide a range of free activity sheets which you will find throughout the galleries. In addition to this, keep an eye on our Activities Calendar to see what family friendly events are coming up.

In the Museum

The Museum is full of all sorts of amazing road transport from the Victorian era to more recent times. You are more than welcome to take photos in the Museum, so don’t forget to bring your camera! Coventry Transport Museum isn’t an art gallery, we welcome families coming in and discovering new things, and we encourage lively discussion and shrieks of excitement!

We love seeing people enjoy our Museum and all that’s in it, which is why we make every effort to protect our collection for many more visitors to see in the future. To help us look after our wonderful collection we ask visitors to use the café or picnic area for any food and drink, which helps us keep crumbs and sticky fingers away from the vehicles. For the same reason we ask all our visitors not to touch or climb on the exhibits, this helps us care for our collection and helps us keep you safe. Wherever possible we’ve provided alternative things to touch and do, and you’ll find fun, interactive opportunities all around the Museum.

What about me?
These are some things we think you might like...

Under 5s

There’s loads of exciting things to see for our littlest visitors; see if you can spot our tractors, fire engines, police cars and more! Have fun pressing buttons to make things ring and ding and flash and beep! And why not have a ride with Postman Pat in his little red van or try driving Brum? If you’re feeling artistic you’ll find things to colour in and draw in many of our galleries.

5-11s

There’s a lot to see and do as you go round the Museum. Follow Star Starley on the video screens through our Landmarques gallery and find out more about the people who lived in Coventry in the past. Have a go at one of our gallery activity sheets and sit in the driving seat of a real Peugeot  in our Ghost Town Gallery. Find out more about how an engine works and hear what some of our engines would sound like if started up!

11-16s

Check out our Coventry Blitz Experience and see what it might have been like on a Coventry street during a bombing raid, don’t miss the real unexploded bomb at the end! If you’re feeling brave take a seat on our Thrust SSC simulator ride and find out what it would be like to travel faster than the speed of sound! And get involved in the argument in our Ghost Town Gallery where you can give your opinion on our interactive touch-screen computers.

Grown-ups

Have a moment of nostalgia and see if you can spot your first car. Watch our classic road safety ads from days gone by, remember the Tufty Club? At Coventry Transport Museum we’re all about keeping people’s stories alive, so let the memories come flooding back and share your stories with the rest of the family.

Children's University

We’re thrilled to be a Learning Destination for the Children's University. If you are a member of the Children's University you can collect stamps for your passport by completing any of our weekend or school holiday activities. We also have a Children's University trail which you can pick up at any time from reception and collect a stamp when completed.
