Introduction Gallery
The first gallery in the Museum is the Introductory Gallery. This gallery explains why we have a transport museum in Coventry, by highlighting the huge number of cycle and motor manufacturers that have been in the City.
Cycles, motorcycles and cars are mixed together to show off the best of the Museum’s collection, and the objects on display range from an 1818 Hobby Horse Cycle to large luxury cars made by Daimler and Armstrong Siddeley.
The Roll of Honour panel illustrates the vast number of cycle and motor manufacturers there have been in the city, ranging from obscure names like Albatross and Calcott to internationally renowned makers like Alvis and Jaguar, with cars made by these companies on display.
On the walls of the gallery you will see quotations from Coventry people, giving an insight into the lives of the people who worked in Coventry’s transport industries.
The Introductory Gallery gives a short insight into Coventry’s road transport heritage and prepares the visitor for the rest of the magnificent Museum.
