About the museum

Archive Enquiry Service


This service can be used if you are unable to visit the museum in person where you tell us what you would like to research or find out about and if we have the relevant material, images or information available we can do the research for you.

The Archive team will work on your enquiry for 15 minutes and depending on the nature of your enquiry one of two things will happen during this period:

If we are able to do so, we will provide you with an answer to your enquiry either by telephone, email or post. If we know that we don’t have the answer to your enquiry we will try and suggest an alternative source of information. We will charge you £5.75 for each enquiry that we are able to answer within the first 15 minutes.

If your enquiry is more complicated or time consuming we will assess whether or not we are likely to be able to help you. If we believe that we do have relevant material we will estimate how long it is going to take us to research and try and answer your enquiry. We will let you know our estimation and will then ask you how many hours you would like us to spend working on your enquiry. Our time will be charged at £23.00 for the first hour and £17.25 per hour thereafter.

We will inform you when the work is complete and once we receive payment we will send the information to you either by email or post.

What happens next?
If you would like us to answer an enquiry for you please fill in the on-line enquiry request form. Please provide us with as much information as possible as this will help us. Please also make sure that you include your full name and address along with an email address and telephone number.

After submitting the form you will receive an automated email response. We will then work on your enquiry for 15 minutes and contact you either with an answer or with an estimate of time and cost to continue with the research.

NB : Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that we will be able to find the answers you are hoping for. Any cost that you agree to pay at the outset of an enquiry search will still be chargeable whether or not we have been able to find the requested information by the end of the agreed time period.

Other charges applicable are:
Heritage certificates: £23.00 - if your vehicle is listed in our collection of Coventry and Solihull registration ledgers we can confirm the chassis number, engine number and date of first registration.
Disk containing information or low res images: £1 per disk.

Photocopying charges for colour copies: 23p per A4 sheet and 35p per A3 sheet; for black and white copies: 12p per A4 sheet and 17p per A3 sheet.

If you have any information about relevant manufacturers, their products or family members who worked in the industry, please do not hesitate to contact us. No matter how trivial you think it may be, your information could be the missing link we are looking for.

*All of the above prices include VAT. Postage and packaging will be charged where applicable. Charges should be paid in cash or by cheque. Cheques should be made payable to ‘CTM Ventures Limited’. The CTM Archive Enquiry Service is non profit making. The money raised from our charges covers the cost of employing a member of staff to undertake the research on your behalf and helps us purchase much needed conservation grade material to care for the collection.
